Things To Do

Thun is a beautiful city we recommend to visit during your stay. A nice tour for the day during spring and summer months is to Walk to Interlaken from our house along the cat path , pictured below, past the Rugen beer brewery and ropes park to the Ship station at Interlaken Ost. Tack across the lake on a scenic cruise past Beatushölen caves, Spiez and Oberhofen Castle and ending up at Thun.  While in Thun, a walk to the 12th century Castle and museum

It takes just 8 minutes to travel to the Harder Kulm from Interlaken.  This is the fastest way to oversee the panorama view of Interlaken, Lake Thun & Brienz , Niesen ( pictured) and  Jungfrau alp chain.

The Town of Interlaken

The Town of Interlaken was first inhabited by monks in the 12 century and was not known to tourists until the 1830`s when the steamboat on both Lake Thun and Brienz enabled people to reach this land.  The railway system followed thereafter and kept exploring deeper into the valley til it reached the Jungfraujoch in 1912.

2012 is the 100 year Celebration of the Jungfraujoch, Unesco World Natural Heritage Site

Travel to the Jungfraujoch via the “Jungfraubahn” train system, which was completed in 1912.  At 3,454 Meters above sea level this is a ” most Do” on your list of excursions while in the ” Jungfrau region”.  Opening in April 2012 will be a direct path between the Ice Palace and the Sphinx -astronomical dome!

If this is not enough excitement, check out this photo taken from the Schilthorn. Not only famous for the movie location of the James Bond ” on her majesties secret service”, if you are lucky you can see this bearded vulture.
